Overview
This assignment required taking an existing technical diagram for the base of the clock project and revising the drawing to include GD&T callouts. I was to identify the purpose of the component and determine what was necessary to control to ensure the component worked properly, involving reverse engineering the design intent of an existing part.
Design Intent Evaluation
To update the technical diagram for the clock base, we need a general understanding of what the component needs to do, accommodate, and restrict.
- Sit on table stably
- Accommodate brass piece
- Accommodate Brass nut
- Nest brass nut
- Accommodate socket for installation
- Accommodate steel piece
- Accommodate steel screw
- Nest steel screw completely in countersink
- Accommodate acrylic clock face
- Hold clock face snugly
- Screw into the mounting holes on the custom fixture for CNC milling
